He averaged more than 40 yards per punt form his sophomore season on, finishing 25th in the nation in 2008 with an average of 42.7. His consistency was also rewarded as UNT’s Abner Haynes Outstanding Special Teams Player of the Year in 2005, 2007, and 2008. His work ethic also placed him atop the weight room’s record holders in every category for kickers-punters in the Mean Green’s 95-year football history.

Finished second in the Sun Belt in punting, and was only non-senior ranked in the top five in the conference ... Helped lead Mean Green to the best net punting average in the Sun Belt ... Averaged 41.2 yards over eight punts in season opener at Texas... Had punts of over 50 yards against seven of the 12 opponents and eight total punts over 50 yards... Only had two touchbacks the entire season.

2005: Ranks third among all returning Sun Belt punters with a 2005 average of 37.7 yards per punt ... Spencer’s 492-punting yards against Kansas State has been topped only twice in the Darrell Dickey era, both times by his predecessor Brad Kadlubar ... Was honored with the Abner Haynes Award as the team’s outstanding special teams player ... Dropped 16 punts inside the opponent’s 20-yard line ... Recorded seven punts of over 50 yards ... Had a career-long punt of 54 yards in the home opener against Tulsa ... 21-yard scramble against Arkansas State proved the team’s 17th longest rush of the season.
